FoSBE "Focus on Government" Event is featuring four guest speakers: Dr. GilAnthony Ungab (Commissioner, San Diego Port Authority); Teresa Valladolid (Trustee Emerita, Southwestern Community College); "Kris" Galicia Brown (Board President/Trustee, Southwestern Community College); and Retired Assistant Cesar A. Solis (San Diego Police Department). With over 250 community organizations, Filipino Americans have a history of civic engagement. Filipino American government officials from the South Bay have served on city councils, college/school boards and as judges. Each presenter has reached out to the broader community and proudly represented our Filipino American community. The event is sponsored in part by FANHS, COPAO, and PASACAT.

A fundraising ethnic Filipino buffet where everyone gathers at the Filipino Community Hall to enjoy a meal and visit with friends, families, and loved ones. FANHS will provide wall exhibits, archived photos, and historical documentaries during the event from 12 to 4 pm. Following the Harvest Dinner, a fundraising dance with a local Filipino Band, The EPICS providing the music. The EPICS began playing together at Wapato Jr HS in the 1960's and continue to perform at local events.

Keynote Speaker; Ditas Katague is a first-generation Filipino American. She was appointed by three California governors and the President of the United States, and led California's census outreach across three decades, chaired the U.S. Census Bureau's National Advisory Committee on Racial, Ethnic, and other populations, and served as the Bureau's Associate Director for Communications and Engagement. Second speaker; Liza Clavecille, a Lector at CSUS and taught Tagalog as a second language, many students who were first generation Filipino American. "Opening ceremony," tabling for all the local organizations, local vendors, performances, and usually a panel at the end where we have local Filipino leaders speak on a given topic. Unveiling ceremony to dedicate the intersection of Roscoe Blvd and Woodman Ave in Panorama City as Kapwa Square

Diana Ibatuan gave a presentation on the beginning of the Asian Youth Club at Wapato MS. The beginning of ethnic students clubs and how diversity has grown into the International Food Festival.

Students and their parents, educators, educational support aids in Wapato and Yakima School District were invited to meet with the FAEW team from Western Washington. FAEW is working on API curriculum for private and public schools. FAEW wanted to have conversations with students from the Wapato SD.

Stephen Viernes gave a presentation and videos on a working Alaskan cannery and the specific jobs that Filipinos and the Wapato Boys were assigned. Living conditions, activities, and how his brother Gene Viernes and Silme Domingo sparked a movement to unionize the Alaska Cannery industry. He also spoke about the precedents that these lawsuits provided.
