Ani: The Harvest of History

Filipinos and Filipino Americans have long played a role in the transformation of the nation’s 250-year history, from the Philippines to the Yakima Valley. This year, FANHS-GPS is honored to host the Filipino American Community of the Yakima Valley, whose hard work and dedication to the community was memorialized with the addition of the Wapato Filipino Community Hall to the National Register of Historic Places, the first ever Filipino community hall built from the ground up added to the list. FANHS-GPS is also honored to host a panel on Filipino American labor activism in our nation's history. The panel will feature Rey Pascua and members of the Itliong Family. Finally, with the support of the Washington State History Museum, FANHS-GPS is also proud to display several items from their collection including an 1800s canon and handsewn flag from the Philippines. Join us as we celebrate the ani of our community by remembering the seeds of Filipino American history in Washington state and the hands that continue to steward the land that we call home.
